Senior Management appointments

The University Council, at its annual business meeting May 31-June 1, 2007, approved the appointment of Dr Bhoendradatt Tewarie, current PVC and Principal of the St Augustine Campus as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Planning and Development and Director of the V.S. Naipaul Institute of Critical Thinking, to lead the process of transformation, implied in the new Strategic Plan, for the entire University. Professor Bridget Brereton will act as Principal of the St Augustine Campus until a new Principal is identified.

Council also approved the appointment of Professor Clem Sankat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Graduate Studies succeeding PVC the Hon Errol Morrison, who now heads the University of Technology, Jamaica. Former Registrar of the St Augustine Campus, Mr C. William Iton, has been appointed University Registrar to succeed Mrs Gloria Barrett-Sobers and finally, Dr Camille Bell-Hutchinson will succeed Mr Anthony Falloon as Mona Campus Registrar in the new academic year. These new appointments are in addition to the previously approved appointments of Professor Hazel Simmons-McDonald as Principal of the UWI Open Campus, Professor Gordon Shirley as Principal of the Mona Campus and Professor Alvin Wint as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Undergraduate Studies. Thus, the Senior Management Team of the University has undergone a major ‘overhaul’. New directions and renewed commitments will no doubt dominate the Retreat of Senior Management scheduled for August 23rd.
