Research studies conducted in the Regional Coordinating Unit include the areas of gender and education, gender and early childhood education, gender-based violence, women and transformational leadership, and gender and the labour market.

 
Current Research Projects


Gender Differentials in Enrolment and Performance in the Caribbean Education Systems

This project examines gender imbalances at the secondary and tertiary levels of the educations systems in the Caribbean with the aim of informing policy and developing appropriate interventions.

This project has four sub-areas of research:

  • An annotated bibliography on regional and international sources in gender issues in education
  • Development and analysis of a database on education systems of CARICOM member states
  • Demographics of school population in Jamaica - a pilot study
  • In-depth study of socio-cultural factors affecting schooling.

Gender Perspectives on the School Experience : At present, a monograph is being written for publication. Project in Research and Gender Training.

The purpose of this project is to expand regional research and thinking on critical issues facing women, such as gender-based violence and to create a database to disseminate data and train persons within the Region to support gender analysis and gender mainstreaming.

  • Caribbean Women Catalysts for Change: the Regional and international Contribution of Outstanding Caribbean Women
  • Gender Differentials in Educational Performance and Achievement in the Transition from Secondary to Tertiary Education
