Damage: Severe flooding occurred from wave action; 20 -33 inches of rain fell over a 48 hour period. Government declared disaster to affect over 490 families
Antigua: This left to severe landslides in the northwest and southern side of Antigua with roads being eroded and washed away in two places. Bridge also washed away. Drainage channels became clogged and there was flooding. Approx. 20,000 left without safe drinking water. Several hotels flooded and severe beach erosion
Barbuda: In the smaller island of Barbuda, up to 65 % of the island was covered in water due to the flat nature of the island. Roads were severely damaged, this led to the interior of the island being inaccessible. There was also contamination of water storage facilities and sanitary facilities overflowed. The main well supplying the public and all private wells became inundated and contaminated. Waste disposal problems and 95 % of agricultural industry destroyed, this included coconuts, peanuts, vegetables and corn
