Heavy Rain led to loss of 500,000 US in damage, Barbados received gusts of up to 44 mph and received 7 inches of rain during a 24-hour period. 10 people were injured, 200 people affected, and 3 people died.

The eye of Hurricane Janet passed just south of the island of Barbados on September 22nd. Maximum winds were estimated at 110 to 120 mph dropping off very rapidly 20 miles out from the edge to the eye. In a short space of time all the island’s communications, electric and telephone services, were at a standstill, and transportation services stopped since all the major roads were blocked by trees and debris.

Occurred in September 1898, Storm was particularly destructive in Barbados where 83 people were killed, 150 people injured, and property damaged at an estimated value of 2,500,000. Passed over Barbados on September 10. The Storm was described as fearful and one of the worst to hit the island since 1831, the island was not visited by a fearful hurricane.
