There is need for Capacity Building funds. Most of the funds currently assessable to the ICJS are air marked for the execution of programmes with little or no consideration for building capacity. The team has been as far as possible using project funding to offset staff and programme costs.
Staff recruitment has been a major challenge, but there are some prospects which will be pursued. There is need for a senior administrative post, this person will manage ongoing projects and liaise with our partners to develop and enhance the research agenda. This person will also be responsible for writing research proposals.
Collaboration across campus has not been as envisaged, it was expected that the EU funds would have been available by now and a programme of research activity developed across the three campuses and extended to the University 12. The nature of the collaboration is therefore around smaller, short-term interventions. The travel budget is therefore an imperative.
