The ISD congratulates Professor Anthony Clayton

The Institute for Sustainable Development congratulates Professor Anthony Clayton, the Alcan Professor of Caribbean Sustainable Development, on his appointment as Chairman of the Broadcasting Commission in Jamaica. Professor Clayton took up his position as chairman of the Commission on November 1, 2016.

The Broadcasting Commission regulates Jamaica’s broadcast (radio and television) and subscriber television services, drafts and implements policies for the sector, advises government and monitors the transmission and operations of Licensees. It is responsible for the strategic positioning of broadcast and television subscriber services in the country. Professor Clayton is not a newcomer to the Commission, as he was a member of the outgoing Commission.

He has designed and initiated a model of development planning called Foresighting for Development, which maps a coherent development strategy with both adaptability and resilience. He has undertaken policy studies and research on a wide range of development issues for many government and intergovernmental agencies, including the UK’s Department for International Development, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Organization of American States, the Governments of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, the United Nations Environment Programme, the World Bank, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, among others. He is a Fellow of the Caribbean Academy of Science and the World Academy of Sciences, the Principal Investigator of the UWI’s Net Zero Energy Building Project and a visiting Professor at a number of institutions in the United Kingdom and the Caribbean.
