Open Campus - Special Projects Head

The candidate must possess a PhD in one of the following disciplines: Instructional Systems; Distance Education; Open and Distance Learning; Instructional Design; Instructional Technology; or a similar degree programme. The Head Special Projects should also have formal certification as a project manager.
The candidate should demonstrate a clear understanding of distance education pedagogy and, in particular, Internet support for distance education. The ideal candidate will be an experienced entrepreneur who has pursued business and academic opportunities in support of higher education institutions.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- manage the Special Projects Department, its internal staff and all external contractors supporting special projects;
- provide the entrepreneurial thrust and innovative cutting edge for the Academic Programming and Delivery Division and Open Campus;
- act as the online pedagogical and educational technology advisor to senior members of Open Campus; and
- solicit and undertake curriculum development and instructional design consultancies and grant-funded projects for online and/or blended learning programmes designed, developed and delivered from within or from outside of the University.
