MRS. GLORIA BARRETT-SOBERS

Mrs. Gloria Barrett-Sobers set precedent as the first female to serve as University Registrar.  Before joining the University, she was employed as Managing Consultant with Price Waterhouse, specializing in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development.  Her special interest in Human Resource Management has been an asset for the University of the West Indies as she has been a key player in the development of Career Path and Succession Planning Programmes, as well as the introduction of Performance Appraisal for both administrative and academic staff.

With a wealth of experience in management consultancy and in education, Mrs. Barrett-Sobers has invaluable expertise which she has honed not only within the Jamaican community but across the Caribbean.  She has worked as Teacher, University Lecturer and Management Consultant in several Caribbean countries including Barbados, Trinidad, St. Vincent and Haiti.

Mrs. Sobers retired from the UWI in 2007.
