The UWI is committed to ensuring that its outreach activities in non-campus countries contribute to the growth
of their human resources and permit them to share in the benefits of participating in a regional university system.
Our Country Conference Series began in May 2000 to place focus on the Non-Campus Countries (NCCs) of the UWI system
(Caribbean states outside of Barbados , Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago).
The
conferences are designed to reflect multi-disciplinary academic
perspectives on matters related to each Caribbean state. Conferences
are held in a cyclical series in each of the NCCs with a running theme
of, Beyond Walls: Multi-disciplinary Perspectives .
The
overall aim of the series is to stimulate and highlight research in
each country, not only by academics in the country, but by UWI staff
based at campuses and by scholars in other institutions with interests
in Caribbean studies.
Since
2000, conferences have been held consecutively in St. Kitts &
Nevis, Dominica , Belize , Grenada , Montserrat, St. Vincent & the
Grenadines, the Cayman Islands and St. Lucia . Conferences are
currently being planned for 2005 in the British Virgin Islands and the
Bahamas .
