STRATEGIC PLAN 2002-2007
Overall Vision
The University of the West Indies five year Strategic Plan 2002-2007 has outlined the
University’s core values, and its vision of undergoing “fundamental qualitative and
quantitative change, transforming itself into a truly 21st century higher education
academy with a global reputation for excellence.” The Plan identifies nine
Strategic Objectives:
- Student Centeredness
- Quality
- Expansion of access
- Development of graduate studies and research
- Enhancing the regional and international standing and visibility of the University
- Restructuring Distance Education and deepening the impact of outreach programmes in the NCCs
- Capacity building through Information and Communication Technologies
- Strengthening the University’s finances
- Capacity building through Human Resource Management
The role of Administration within this context assumes a particular significance, one that is clearly integral
to the achievement of the University’s mission. Those who provide administrative services must now do so from a
vantage point of complete knowledge and understanding of and support for the University’s new strategic directions
and an unwavering commitment to providing such services in as cost-effective a manner as possible.
