Session 1

Alumni Relations – IAD in association with the YoPro Global Foundation was pleased to host Dr. Renee Boyce’s session: “Conversations around Corona” as part of the Soft and Life Skills Series (SLSS) on April 9, 2020. It was positively welcomed and participants stayed online to have further questions answered. Session 2

Alumni Relations – IAD in association with the YoPro Global Foundation was pleased to host Dr. Lisa McClean-Trotman’s session: “Behaviour Change Amidst Covid-19: Implications for Education” as part of the Soft and Life Skills Series (SLSS) on April 23, 2020. She noted that we have all had to change our usual behaviour overnight and that “techno-stress” is part of our new reality. We thank UWI alumna, Dr. McClean-Trotman,for sharing her expertise with the alumni population.

Dr McClean-Trotman gave extremely useful advice, applicable to all sectors, although education was the focus. She noted that remote meetings must have timelines as some persons have reported the expectation of regular 4 and 5 hour meetings. Others are trying to manage remote work, while balancing having primary and secondary school age children needing supervision, or to have access to their device (not every household has more than one home computer!). One useful recommendation endorsed by participants is that employers should focus on weekly, realistic “deliverables” rather than on the amount of time spent on the computer between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. as employees may be balancing taking care of children, elderly parents, essential shopping within curfew hours and a host of other new daily items. Employers should therefore wish simply that daily or weekly targets be achieved and let the employee work out a flexible schedule to achieve same.
