UWI Pelican Chelsea Mai, a Belizean, has been awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to obtain her International Masters in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic studies. The scholarship is fully funded by the European Commission’s Education Audiovisual and Cultural Executive Agency (EACEA). She has a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the UWI, Mona Campus.

She believes that an academic path in security is important in order for women to become more involved in the security apparatus of Belize, especially at the policy level. She has recently completed her first semester at the University of Glasgow in Scotland and she is currently living in Italy to complete my second semester at the University of Trento. The she will go to Prague in the Czech Republic to complete her third semester before moving into the research period of her dissertation.

She notes that conflict and insecurity have a way of disproportionally affecting women that is why she believes it is of crucial importance for women to be given roles to contribute to solutions at both the International and National Security levels.

She recently published her first academic article entitled ‘The impact of Drone Technology on Intelligence practices: Revolutionary or Evolutionary?, which appeared in an academic journal from the University of Glasgow in Scotland called the Student Security and Strategy Journal.
