Dr. Jascinth Lindo Receives Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to Bahamas

UWI Mona Alumna Dr. Jascinth Lindo completed a Master's degree in Public Health (2003) and a PhD in 2012 and Masters in Nursing Education 2015 (all in the Faculty of Medical Sciences). She is a Registered Nurse.

She has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to the Bahamas and will teach and conduct research at the University of the Bahamas as part of a project to build nursing research capacity in the Caribbean. This project aims to enhance learning experiences in a research methods course and will engage nursing faculty and clinical partners in activities designed to strengthen research skills and promote a culture of research in the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences at the UB.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr Lindo will share knowledge and foster meaningful connections across communities in the United States and the Bahamas. Fulbrighters engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions. Upon returning to their institutions, labs, and classrooms, in the United States, they share their stories and often become active supporters of international exchange, inviting foreign scholars to campus, and encouraging colleagues and students to go abroad. As Fulbright Scholar alumni, their careers are enriched by joining a network of thousands of esteemed scholars, many of whom are leaders in their fields. Fulbright alumni include 60 Nobel Prize laureates, 88 Pulitzer Prize recipients, and 39 who have served as a head of state or government.

She admires greatly Dr. Hermi Hewitt, former head of the UWI School of Nursing, who she considers her inspiration, a trail blazer and visionary. Her favorite memories include participating in multidisciplinary study groups to complete course work in the Master of Public Health Programme (nurses, doctors, physical therapist, public health inspector and dental hygienist).  This is well aligned with the Framework for Action on Inter-professional Education & Collaborative Practice recommended by the WHO (2015).
