The UWI Family mourns the passing of Honorary Graduate, Hon Barbara Gloudon, OJ. - A Giant of Journalism and Theatre
Hon. Barbara Gloudon, OJ, a verteran broadcaster, journalist and playwright was the former features editior at The Gleaner and hosted Radio Jamaica's talk-show 'Hotline' from the late 1980's until her departure in 2015. As host of Radio Jamaica's talk show, Hotline, she attracted a huge following with her folksy delivery and wit,coupled with the emphaty she she exuded in her interactions with listeners.
For decades Barbara Gloudon was the Chair, chief writer and producer for the Little Theatre Movement's, Annual Pantomine.
In recognition of her distinguished and faithful service to Jamaica, Mrs. Gloudon was bestowed with the Order of Jamaica (OJ) in 1992. In 2012, she became a fellow of the Institute of Jamaica, and in 2013, she was inducted in the Press Association of Jamaica's Hall of Fame.
in 2003, Mrs. Gloudon was conferred with the Doctor of Letters (DLitt) degree as an Honorary Graduate of the UWI, Mona Campus.
The University extends condolences to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Gloudon.
