Partnering to assist Corporate Transformation

The UWI constantly seeks to enhance its relevance to the region and as such the UWI Mona has partnered with the National Commercial Bank to produce critical corporate transformation research. This programme is the first of its kind in the Caribbean and stems from the observation that many Caribbean-based companies are in need of radical change in organisational behaviour to equip them to navigate the dynamic global and local environments. The UWI was the first port of call to organise this academic research.

The completed Phase 1 document was officially handed over by Professor Ishenkumba Kahwa, Deputy Principal, UWI, Mona to Mr. Patrick Hylton, Group Managing Director of NCB. The report on the Applied Research on Corporate Transformation undertaken by Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) was sponsored by NCB. The report will benefits for NCB, UWI and other organisations in the wider Caribbean community. There is a paucity of academic studies regarding challenges such as small market sizes and low economic growth and this report will fill the knowledge gap in these areas. Phase 1 concentrates on research on business models and business intelligence for corporate transformation and Phase 2 consists of a Professional Chair for further academic work in the domain. The deliverables from Phase 1 will provide a solid foundation for Phase 2, as the Chair’s scholarly activities will advance knowledge in corporate transformation through the publication of a book and scholarly academic papers, which will also be distilled for consumption by the public. Additionally the Chair will also develop curricula and cases for educational purposes. The NCB sponsored Applied Research in Corporate Transformation cam be considered a valuable resource for NCB and UWI as well as businesses in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean
