Peter Nelson

Kudos to UWI Pelican Peter Nelson, who obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the age of 25. He is one of the youngest PhD graduates from The UWI, Mona.

Although he came from humble beginnings, his mother instilled in him a love for science. He worked hard and pushed himself to excel and in fact, published twelve research articles in international peer review journals and two books, while completing his PhD in Chemistry. In addition, he later obtained a postdoctoral fellowship at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. He was the first person from the Caribbean and The UWI there and was also the youngest at the Institute in 2014. Now at age 29, he is a lecturer and researcher at The UWI Chemistry Department. He is also an entrepreneur with a registered successful farming business called Benson Farms in Yallahs, St Thomas. He aspires to become a Professor in Chemistry at The UWI and we salute and celebrate this young Pelican.
