UWIMAA Canada's Distinguished Service Award 2017 goes to Dr. Rosemary Moodie

2017 - Dr. Rosemary Moodie MBBS’82 - In recognition of exceptional service in child and maternal health


The UWIMAA Canada is pleased to honour Dr. Rosemary Moodie. who is a proud UWI alumna.  

She did post-graduate training in Paediatric Medicine and Perinatal Medicine at SickKids in Toronto. She completed her MBA from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto in 2001; and Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University in 2011.

For over 20 years, Rosemary’s community paediatric practice has served designated priority neighbourhood in the City of Toronto. She is clinical teacher and Associate Professor in Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Rosemary’s vast medical leadership includes past Corporate Chief of Paediatrics and Medical Director of the Regional Maternal Child Program at Rouge Valley Health System in Toronto; and Lead for Maternal, Child, Youth, and Gynaecology of the Central East Local Health Integrated Network. She has served on many regional and provincial committees advocating to improve health equity and expand quality health care access for children. In addition,

Rosemary is national and international surveyor for Accreditation Canada and works in areas of planning for regional health care services and healthcare human resources. Rosemary’s contribution to volunteerism and advocacy is extensive. She is past President and Board Chair of the YWCA Toronto; Advisory Board of Food for the Poor Canada; and Board Director for P.A.C.E. (Canada). She currently serves as Board Director St. Joseph Health Centre Toronto fostering healthy communities; and Board Director of the ScotiaBank Jamaica Foundation advancing international health projects.

Among her distinctions for community service are the City of Toronto Human Rights Award; University of Toronto Alumni Award for Community Engagement; and Ontario Medical Association Presidential Award for exceptional humanitarian service.
