Aleema Mohammed - Student Spotlight | Our Future Alumni Journeys into Medicine: UWI St. Augustine

From a young age, I was driven to help those in need. At SJCSJ, I engaged my passion through outreach activities like food drives, flood drives and many more.

I’m enthusiastic about human rights and protecting the environment, which was enhanced through the Environmental Club. Additionally, my experience in the RBC Young Leaders, Junior Achievement programs and internships at BDO Trinity Ltd. exposed me to the financial sector. This combination allowed me to form an online small business, B’ Thrifty TT where I can positively contribute to the environment by reducing my carbon footprint and simultaneously educate and encourage others to do the same.

As an aspiring physician, I also volunteered at vaccination drives to do my part in combatting COVID-19. Through a school project, in partnership with SewaTT, I am a member of LifeStreamTT where we continue to educate others on the need for blood donations in Trinidad and Tobago.

I have played a part in many organizations in my short UWI career. 1), Assistant secretary of the Outreach Committee. 2), Chairperson of MSSC’s Student Activities. 3), An executive member of the Leadership Council and the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health. And 4), a member of the Rotaract Club of Mt. Hope and Mt. Hope Surgical Society.

I have been fortunate enough to pursue my dreams with the guidance and support of my family. I hope to inspire young women to break all barriers, particularly in medicine, and to create a smoother path for others to walk.
