Google celebrates Sir W. Arthur Lewis today! A lauded economist, Sir Arthur was a Nobel Prize Laureate (1979) and The UWI’s first Vice-Chancellor. His legacy surrounds pioneering research in economic growth and development, particularly involving developing countries.

The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) was named in his honour when it was formed in 1999 with a merger of the Consortium Graduate School of the Social Sciences (CGSS) and the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER). SALISES has offices located at our UWI Mona, St. Augustine and Cave Hill campuses.
