Nadine C. Atkinson-Flowers writes new legal book "On Your Feet: Criminal Practice in the Jamaican Parish Courts"

Nadine C. Atkinson-Flowers is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, and the Norman Manley Law School. She holds a B. A in History, a Masters in History and is a practicing attorney with almost 15 years at the public and private Bar, having been an attorney at the Director of Public Prosecutions and in private practice. She is also admitted in the USA and currently focuses on US immigration, Jamaican criminal law, real estate, family law, contracts, and the intersection of US immigration law and Jamaican law.

She has written a book titled On Your Feet that was published by the Caribbean Law Publishing Company, an imprint of Ian Randle Publishers in June 2021.

On Your Feet provides a guide for the duties of the Clerk of the Courts in the Parish Courts and eases the transition into learning and mastering the intricacies of working in the courts. As it focuses on criminal practice and procedure, all members of the prosecuting arm can refer readily to it. This guide is equally invaluable to defense counsel, civil practitioners who have clients with criminal cases, and new practitioners unfamiliar with the procedures and practices in the Parish Court, as it condenses the court's functioning. The Parish Court Judge can use this book as a ready reference as well. Law students with an interest in criminal practice should also find this book useful. Paralegals who work in both the private and public sectors will benefit from this text as well.

Within this book, the statutes of significance are many and varied, but there are several that should be familiar to all practitioners. The book clearly sets out the statutory authority, the roles, responsibilities, and functions of these officers who are critical to the administration of justice in the Parish Court. The practice in the island's Parish Courts tend to vary, sometimes slightly, other times significantly and so this publication seeks to bring together best practices. Significantly, there is no other up-to-date publication that currently offers this kind of treatment of the legal environment in the Jamaican Parish Courts, and which sets the stage for the practice in the other levels of the Jamaican legal system.

Purchase of the book can be made via the publishers or on Amazon
