Media and Tourism: A Fi Wi Business?!In commemoration of Professor Aggrey Brown, a man known to many as a giant of the regional and international communication industry, the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), at the University of the West Indies, will be hosting its 4th Annual CARIMAC/ Aggrey Brown Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 6PM at the UWI Undercroft. This Lecture is under the theme “Media and Tourism: A Fi Wi Business?!”.

This year, the Lecture is under the patronage of Ambassador of Spain to Jamaica, Her Excellency Celsa Nuño and will feature an exhilarating Tourism Village showcasing many of Jamaica’s finest products, ranging from fashion to agriculture. The Tourism Village will be open to the public from 10AM to 6PM on the lawns of the Undercroft. The title sponsors include the Spanish Jamaican Foundation and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).

President of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), Mrs. Evelyn Smith, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Other specially invited guests include Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Ronald Thwaites, Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Wykeham McNeil and Minister of Youth and Culture, Hon. Lisa Hanna.

Since 2010, the CARIMAC/ Aggrey Brown Distinguished Lecture has been held each year in the honour of the former lecturer and head of Department, known to many as Prof Brown, who also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education prior to his retirement. He passed away one year after receiving this honour.

Professor Brown always championed efforts supporting the nation’s development. With the theme, “Media and Tourism: A Fi Wi Business?!”, the focus will be on how media, as well as the people of Jamaica, can become more involved with tourism, deemed by many to be the backbone of Jamaica’s economy.
