UWI celebrates World Chocolate and Cocoa Day

{gallery}http://www.flickr.com/photos/theuwi/sets/72157627832182424/{/gallery} The international community celebrated World Cocoa and Chocolate Day on October at the Cocoa Research Unit (CRU) and The University of the West Indies (UWI) joined the celebrations with an exhibition of locally grown and produced cocoa and chocolate on Friday 30th September, 2011, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Sir Frank Stockdale Building, Faculty of Science and Agriculture, UWI St. Augustine Campus.

World Cocoa and Chocolate Day is celebrated internationally on October 1st and the CRU took the opportunity to recognise and trumpet the exclusive flavour of Trinidad and Tobago’s Trinitario cocoa and the collective efforts of the country’s more than 3,000 cocoa farmers.

The exhibition featured displays and products on sale from a number of local and regional chocolatiers and cocoa producers, which included Cocobel Chocolates, Delft Cocoa Plantations, Exotic Caribbean Mountain Pride, Tobago Cocoa Estate, Gina’s Hand Made Truffles, Cacao Atlanta, the Cocoa and Coffee Industry Board of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Cocoa Research Division of the Ministry of Food Production, Land and Marine Affairs.
