USA’s George Towett took the first place position, coming in at a time of 1:06:41. Simon Sawe, from Kenya/USA, came in second at 1:08:03. Coming in third was Cleveland Forde from Guyana with a time of 1:08:55. Stephen Tanui was a close fourth at 1:08:59, and Trinidad’s very own Richard Jones hit the finish line a second later, at 1:09:00, taking fifth place.

The only traffic-free race in the region, the Half-Marathon was one of the most anticipated events on the local athletic calendar.

Since its inception in 2004, the UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon has grown tremendously. This year, over 1,000 local, regional and international athletes competed for over TT$135,000 in prizes. There were also specific categories for UWI students and staff, and wheelchair as well as physically challenged competitors.

Once again, this year’s race was electronically timed and any records broken in this AIMS-certified (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races), and International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF)-accredited race was recognized worldwide.
