Event Date:
September 30, 2015 - 5:00pm

Mona Social Services (MSS) has joined other stakeholders, namely the Sizzla Youth Foundation in the organizing of activities marking August Town’s 177 years celebration. One of the activities spearheaded by MSS is a panel discussion to be held on  Wednesday, September 30 at 5:00pm at the African Gardens Sports Complex.
The main speaker on the panelwill be Prof Denise Eldemire-Shearer, Campus Coordinator, School of Graduate Studies and Research addressing the topic Memory & Modernity: UWI & August Town’s Relationship for Development. She will speak on the topic for 30 minutes. This will follow 7-minute comments by three discussants. A moderated, interactive discussion will take place at the close of the three presentations.
About the theme
The theme was conceptualized from the programme activities of the UWI Township Project and the plethora of activities organized by community based organizations in Greater August Town for the improvement in lives of residents. This dedicated work spans more than 30 years with the University’s own involvement with residents dating back to when it was a college.
The panel discussion is expected to probe the trajectory of need for Greater August Town, while at the same time addressing the critical issues of dependence, interdependence, development and sustainability.
