Programme Goals

Create a cadre of persons with cognitive skills, knowledge, and technical competences in leadership and sustainable development to lead activities that address challenges to attaining the SDGs

Create awareness of the urgent need for policies and procedures to address the sustainable development needs of SIDS

Expose students to an interdisciplinary approach to policy definition, research, and advice for sustainable development

Expand knowledge on sustainable development so that participants can understand the linkages between nature, society, economics, and well-being and effective actions in communities, businesses, public sector, and civil society

Create graduates that have competence to lead sustainable development activities

Programme Objectives

  • Critically analyse the concepts of leadership and sustainable development
  • Assess sustainable development challenges, with particular emphasis on the processes which are unique to special cases such as poor or marginalized communities, less developed countries, islands, or landlocked states
  • Synthesize interdisciplinary perspectives to examine the interconnections among leadership, sustainable communities, and economic development and how these relate to the development of social capital, community capacity, and economic growth
  • Implement strategies that promote fairness, inclusion, equity, and improve the quality of life within communities, businesses, or countries
  • Lead activities to address Sustainable Development problems
