FOOTPRINTS: Students for Development
Theme for 2007- 2008: “ Honoring our past, strengthening our presence, cultivating our future… celebrating who we are”
This regional programme is developed by students for students. It is all about students giving to benefit their peers. It is designed to be an annual event with 2 simple goals: to teach students about the importance of annual giving and to make Alumni Donors and Friends of the UWI feel that their contributions are truly appreciated. It seeks to get the present student population to be a part of the continued development of their campus. Undergraduates and graduate students are invited to take part, however special attention will be paid to the level of participation by final year students.
Student participation is what is being evaluated, moreso than the amount of the actual financial contributions (i.e. what will be evaluated and publicized is the percenetage of students that are involved in FOOTPRINTS, for example that 85% of the student population gave towards the Footprint Goal of XXX in 2008.
The IAD will supply information about projects/ the number of scholarships/bursaries so that students are aware of the contribution of donors.
UWI STAT Ambassadors will create a P.R. campaign to support it and lead up to FOOTPRINTS Day! This day is to raise awareness and get students thinking about their role as they become alumni someday.
All UWI students could be invited to view a student- produced 2 minute video about the importance of annual giving. Then they give their donation and have their name recorded for the website. The Faculty which encourages the most student involvement will get 50% of the funds collected for an improvement project chosen by the students that year.
The inaugural FOOTPRINTS DAY will be Thursday, February 28, 2008.
