Most alumni identify with and are proud of the UWI Coat of Arms, and can therefore proudly associate with the symbol of the Pelican. It has an interesting history.

At the “crest” or top is a brown Pelican. The brown Pelican fishes along the coasts of all the Caribbean lands and was chosen as it can represent all countries that are a part of this great institution. What you might not know is that it is a symbol of “care for the young”; ideal for our alma mater, which nurtures young minds.

We hope that you will be proud sons and daughters of the Pelican and show your Pelican Pride, by staying connected to your alma mater.
