The University Libraries focuses on improving services through their staff of competent professionals and para-professionals as well as by strengthening and developing their information technology base through the acquisition of resources (electronic and print) and modern technologies for increased access to information in this dynamic environment. Each Library is striving to fulfill it’s mandate to provide their users with a progressive library environment through the integration and enhancing of information technology. Some significant advances in information technology include:
- Acquisition and Implementation of the new web-based Integrated Library System, Aleph 500, across the three campuses thus streamlining the management of library processes for the benefit of students and staff.
- Joint acquisition of access to additional on-line databases and e-resources to provide students with a more technologically enriched learning environment and the electronic format provides and expands access to a variety of information resources to on and off-campus and distance students as well as academic staff.
- At the Mona Campus Library the creation of the Mona Online Research Database which has made Campus research for the period 1993-2005 available globally through the internet.
- The St Augustine Library pursued the development and implementation of DSpace, the preferred platform for building an institutional repository to accommodate the growing body of scholarly information in digital format.
- Purchase and deployment of assistive technology for the provision of services to the visually-impaired users at the St Augustine Campus Library.
- Digitization of the West Indiana and Special Collections at the St Augustine Campus Library.
