Sir Phillip Sherlock Scholars & Artists in Residence Programme
This popular outreach programme of the SCS, brings to many Caribbean countries, a number of scholars and artists who most people would otherwise not have seen in action without leaving home. Named after its first Director, Sir Philip Sherlock, a former Principal of the University College of the West Indies , the programme is officially known as the Sir Philip Sherlock Programme for Scholars and Artists in Residence in Non-Campus Countries . The programme was launched months before Sir Phillip's passing in 2002 and was able to receive his blessing.
The School sends scholars and artists to the non-campus countries in the Caribbean to live and work in those countries for short periods to contribute to the intellectual and creative life of their host country. The CDB originally provided a grant to establish the programme, allowing the School to make nine awards in carnival development, dance, writing, story-telling, art, poetry, textiles & fabric art, and ethnic studies.
