Vice Chancellor addresses stakeholders of the Banana Industry
“The model of training being developed by UWI Consulting and HEART Trust NTA could be replicated across the region to deal with displaced workers in various sectors” This observation was made by the Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Nigel Harris as he spoke with stakeholders of the banana sector at a meeting convened by UWI Consulting at the Mona Campus.
Industry representatives recommended innovative approaches to help displaced workers transition to new economic activities that could be generated from partnerships between community based organizations, the private sector and international funding agencies.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Halden Morris of the Institute of Education, UWI. Dr. Morris is holding a series of consultations in several parishes to better understand the needs of displaced banana workers. UWI Consulting is collaborating with The Institute of Education and SALISES to provide consulting services to the HEART Trust NTA on this project.
