Support to the CDEMA Coordinating Unit for the Administration of the Comprehensive Disaster Management Audit Tool and Review, Update and Development of Country Work Programmes
This project is strategic intervention aimed at strengthening disaster risk management capacity within the Caribbean region. The UWI is providing support to CDEMA to administer the Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Audit Tool across six participating states. This tool is essential for assessing the implementation status of CDM at the national level, identifying institutional strengths, gaps, and priorities across various sectors including preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. The audit process enables countries to benchmark their progress against CDM standards and fosters improved national planning and coordination in disaster management.
The UWI also provided support for the review, update, and develop Country Work Programmes (CWPs) in ten participating states. These work programmes serve as national action plans aligned with the CDM Strategy and Framework, articulating country-specific priorities, activities, timelines, and resource needs. By revisiting and refining these programmes, the initiative promotes national ownership, enhances strategic alignment with regional objectives, and supports donor coordination. Overall, the project contributes to improved accountability, institutional strengthening, and targeted investment in disaster resilience efforts across the Caribbean. It is a critical step toward operationalising CDM at the country level and supports the broader regional agenda of building safer and more resilient communities.
