High Level Forum on "Leveraging the Sustainable Development Goals for an Energy Secure Caribbean"

The Institute for Sustainable Development, the University of the West Indies (ISD,UWI) and the United Nation Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) held a High Level Forum on Leveraging the Sustainable Development Goals for an Energy Secure Caribbean. The session looked at ways in which the Caribbean can drive low Carbon growth; the Energy possibilities and practicalities in the region and the central role of the Sustainable Development Goals in Caribbean Development.

The forum heard presentation from Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Networks and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, New York; Professor Anthony Clayton, Professor in Sustainable Development at the University of the West Indies; Mrs. Mariame McIntosh Robinson, of First Global Bank ; the Hon. Ian Liburd, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development and Transport in St Kitts Dr Devon Gardner, Head of the Energy Unit, at the CARICOM Secretariat, Mr. Gary Barrow, Chief Technical Officer of Jamaica Public Service company and Dr Damian King, Head of the Dept. of Economics, Mona Campus.

The sessions were chaired by PVC Dale Webber of the UWI and Dr David Smith of the Institute for Sustainable Development. They were held at the Regional Headquarters on June 21st, 2016. The Forum attracted persons who are engaged in clean energy solutions from the private and public sectors across the region
