About ISDJ

What is ISDJ?

The International School for Development Justice (ISDJ) is an online graduate school that is part of the University of the West Indies (UWI). ISDJ offers postgraduate programmes focused on sustainable development, climate studies, public health, gender justice, and related fields. It is the world's first business school dedicated exclusively to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

What is ISDJ's relationship with UWI?

ISDJ is an institution within the University of the West Indies — not a separate partner or affiliated institution. Your qualification is awarded by UWI, one of the most established universities in the Caribbean with over 75 years of academic excellence.

 

Is ISDJ accredited?

Yes. UWI ISDJ operates under the accreditation framework of UWI's Global Campus, which holds accreditation from the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) — a statutory body under Barbados' Ministry of Education. The BAC evaluates institutions against internationally benchmarked standards, including the Code of Practice for the Assurance of Educational Quality and Standards in Distance Education. The UWI Global Campus first commenced its accreditation journey in 2010 and has since been granted maximum-period accreditation.

 

What is ISDJ's mission?

ISDJ exists to develop the next generation of leaders, professionals, and changemakers who can advance sustainable development and justice globally. Its programmes are grounded in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and designed for professionals who want to create meaningful impact in their fields.

What programmes does ISDJ offer?

ISDJ currently offers ten postgraduate programmes:

What qualification levels are available?

Each programme is available at three levels: 

  • Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) — 12 credits 
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) — 21 credits 
  • Master's degree (MSc/MA) — 36 credits You may enter at any level, or progress through the levels sequentially.

 

Are the programmes fully online?

Yes. All ISDJ programmes are delivered fully online, making them accessible to working professionals anywhere in the world. There is no requirement to travel to Barbados or any campus.

 


Programme Structure & Duration

How are the courses structured?

Each course lasts 8 weeks. You study either one course at a time (part-time) or two courses simultaneously (full-time).

 

How long does each level take to complete?

  • Postgraduate Certificate (12 credits): Full-time: 16 weeks | Part-time: 32 weeks 
  • Postgraduate Diploma (21 credits): Full-time: 32 weeks | Part-time: 56 weeks 
  • Master's degree (36 credits): Full-time: 56 weeks | Part-time: 96 weeks 

Note: Master's programmes include Research Methods and a Final Project component.

 

Can I study part-time while working?

Yes — ISDJ programmes are specifically designed for working professionals. The part-time pathway allows you to take one course per 8-week block, giving you the flexibility to balance your studies with your career and personal commitments.

 

What is the difference between core and elective courses?

Core courses are compulsory and form the foundation of your programme. Elective courses allow you to specialise and tailor your degree to your professional interests. Master's students also complete Research Methods and a Final Project.

 


Tuition & Fees

What are the tuition fees?

  • Fees are charged per programme level: Postgraduate Certificate: US$3,500 (direct entry) 
  • Postgraduate Diploma: US$7,500 (direct entry) | US$4,500 (with corresponding PgCert) 
  • Master's degree: US$10,000 (direct entry) | US$9,000 (with corresponding PgCert) | US$3,500 (with corresponding PgDip) 

Note: These fees cover tuition only. An application fee of US$15 is also required.

 

Are there payment plans available?

Yes. ISDJ offers flexible payment options, including instalment plans. Please contact the admissions team to discuss a payment arrangement that suits your circumstances.

 

Is financial assistance available?

ISDJ is actively working to secure scholarship and financial support opportunities for qualifying students. Merit-based and need-based options may be available. Contact the admissions office for the most current information on available support.

 


Admissions & Applications

What are the entry requirements?

Entry requirements vary by programme and level. Generally, applicants for Master's level study should hold a relevant first degree. For Postgraduate Certificate entry, professional experience may be considered. Each programme has specific academic and professional.

 

How do I apply?

Applications are submitted through ISDJ's online application portal. The process involves: 1. Apply through the application portal 2. Pay the application fee of US$15 3. Submit your qualifications and CV to the Qualification Check portal Once reviewed and assessed, successful applicants will receive a formal offer letter with full programme and fee details.

 

When is the next intake?

ISDJ admits students on a rolling basis, with the next major intake opening for April 2026. Contact the admissions team or visit the website for current start dates and application deadlines.

 

Can I receive an official fee statement for bank processing?

Yes. Once your application is submitted and your application fee is paid, the admissions team can provide supporting documentation for bank processing purposes. Please contact the admissions office directly with your request.
