UWI Teaching & Learning Remotely

Blackboard Collaborate (BBC)

The Blackboard Collaborate (BbC) Ultra web conferencing system is the recommended tool for synchronous teaching at The UWI. It was designed especially for teaching and learning and provides a rich set of interactive features.

BbC is the university’s enterprise web conferencing tool and it is integrated into the Moodle Learning Management System on all campuses.  This integration is important for the following reasons:

  1. It provides an added layer of security by restricting access to authorized personnel only
  2. The sessions are created within Moodle and the link for each session is accessible from within the secured Moodle course page and therefore does not have to be circulated via email or an unsecured environment
  3. Session recordings are easily accessible to students from within the Moodle environment
  4. The BbC/Moodle integration provides a flexible teaching/learning environment where faculty and students can experience the benefits of a blend of synchronous and asynchronous modalities within a single platform.

BbC Ultra has a capacity of 250 participants but arrangements can be made for the accommodation of a larger number of participants once a request is made in advance of the class. Requests for accommodation of larger class sizes should be made through the Campus IT Service Desk at least 48 hours in advance of the class.

How to Access:

Academic staff and students of The UWI have access to Blackboard Collaborate web conference through the Moodle Learning Management System on each campus. Requests or queries should be sent to the campus service desks at the email addresses  below.
