RESEARCH GRANTS

  1. Inter-American Development Bank

IDB Grant totalling 2.45M USD to rehabilitate and preserve dead and damaged mangroves in south Clarendon, enhance livelihoods related to mangroves and to secure measurable additions to carbon sequestration to mitigate global warming. 2020-2026.

  2. National Institutes of Health

NIH funding totalling 1M USD shared among our consortium of five academic centres, the PI in Chicago, SODECO in Jamaica, Ghana, South Africa and Seychelles, to explore the role ofsleep disturbance and meal timing on obesity and diabetes. This study began in 2019 and goes through 2024.

NIH funding totalling 2.5M USD shared among our consortium of five academic centres, the PI in Chicago, SODECO in Jamaica, Ghana, South Africa and Seychelles.

“METS Microbiome”. This is to explore the role of gut bacteria on the risk of obesity and diabetes. This study began April 2018 and continues through to 2023.

  4. Global Challenges Research Fund

GCRF UK consortium (Kenya, Scotland, Grenada and Jamaica) grant 24,000 USD  in Jamaica toco-create our funding proposal to assess and mitigate the impact of pollutants in the mangrove foodchain from up-stream runoff of pesticides and other residues. 2020- 2021.

  5. Climate-U Funding

Climate-U funding of 19,000 USD to pilot participatory action research in environmental monitoring to secure healthy mangrove forests.

  6. The Royal Society - Grand Challenge Grant

Grand challenges/The Royal Society funding of 24,000 GBP to explore impact of extreme weather events and climate change of early life development and long term health both cardio-metabolic and neurocognitive.

  7. Industry Funding

Industry grant of E900,000 to evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise on cognition and emotional regulation of adult survivors of severe childhood malnutrition in Kingston, Jamaica

  8. Wellcome Leap Grant

Wellcome Leap Grant of USD1M to evaluate the impact of brain targeted nutritional supplements on cognition and emotional regulation in children suffering severe malnutrition in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

  9. NIH Grant 22K

NIH Grant of USD22,000 to pilot a new strategy for deploying exercise for brain health focusing on in- home exercise because of the risks associated with centrally conducted exercise interventions in COVID pandemic conditions. Exercise and nutrition are used to induce brain plasticity in adult survivors of severe childhood malnutrition, to repair neural circuitry and function, and improve cognition and executive function. The new pilot begins upon receipt of ethics approval in 2021 and runs for 1 year.

  10. NIH Funding 1M

USD1M NIH funding shared among our consortium of five academic centres (above) to explore the role of sleep disturbance and meal timing on obesity and diabetes. This study began in 2019 and goes through 2022.

  11. GCRF UK consortium

GCRF UK consortium (Kenya, Scotland, Grenada and Jamaica) grant USD24,000 in Jamaica to co-create our funding proposal to assess and mitigate the impact of pollutants in the mangrove food chain from up-stream runoff of pesticides and other residues. 2020- 2021.

  12. IDB Grant

IDB Grant USD 2.45m to rehabilitate and preserve dead and damaged mangroves in south Clarendon, enhance livelihoods related
to mangroves and to secure measurable additions to carbon sequestration to mitigate global warming 2020-2026.
