Overview

SPORT MARKETING COURSE

 

INTRODUCTION

Through their mutual commitment to the region, The University of the West Indies (UWI), Faculty of Sport and the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have collaborated to offer a unique field based course, which introduces participants to the fundamentals of sport marketing. The Certificate Course in Sport Marketing is the first official product of the relationship between The UWI, Faculty of Sport and the Republic Bank CPL.

 

COURSE SUMMARY

The course, comprising a minimum of 12 hours of lecture plus fieldwork will cover topics including: Brand Building, Digital Marketing, Market Segmentation and Revenue Generation.

The initial coursework will be conducted online.  The fieldwork will take place on-site with CPL marketing teams at the host venues for the 2024 tournament. Upon successful completion participants will be awarded a Certificate.

Venues/Fieldwork Sites

The countries hosting matches in the 2024 Republic Bank CPL are Antigua, Barbados, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana. The 2024 tournament will run from August 28 - October 6. 

Application

Through a process of open application, 18 individuals (3 per host country) will be selected to participate.

Internship Model

Three individuals per territory will participate in the fieldwork/practicum while the 2024 Republic Bank (CPL) T-20 series is taking place in their respective home territory.

 

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The course aims, over time, to:

  • Highlight the socioeconomic value of sport marketing;
  • Produce a cadre of savvy sport marketing professionals for sport events and organisations in the Caribbean; and
  • Demonstrate the value of sport-specific knowledge to the corporate sector
