Virtual Coaches' Conference

The collaboration between The UWI Faculty of Sport and The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago in the hosting of a virtual Coaches' Conference on March 24th was a resounding success.  The over 150 participants were engaged from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm (AST).  Participants were registered from across the Caribbean with a few from the USA, Chile and Luxembourg.

Closing comments from the panellists in the discussion themed "How I do it. Pearls and Personal Experiences":

Glen Mills: "Sport governing bodies need to do more...they should place greater emphasis in developing coaches who have demonstrated devotion to the sport".  "As for coaches...do not mislead your athletes."

James Adams also supported this view from Glen Mills stating that the governing bodies should formally train their best coaches.  His message to coaches, "continue to improve as a coach, tapping into the wealth of raw material [athletes] availalbe in the Caribbean".

Kenwyne Jones: to the coaches, "continue to pursue knowledge, always want to get better...the better you get, the better you are able to impart the knowledge to your charges.

Oberon Pitterson: "Once coaches are at the top of their game, the athletes also will get there."  "Also, a solid coaching pathway with investment from governments and sport governing bodies is needed."
