CHANCELLOR’S MEDAL

The Chancellor’s Medal is a rare accolade.
First struck in 1998, the 50th anniversary of the university opening its doors, the June 2017 award to Professor Elsa Leo-Rhynie is the sixth such award; and perhaps the last hurrah of outgoing Chancellor Sir George Alleyne.

IIPT Endorses The UWI Open Campus - Countrystyle MOU

The International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) is most pleased to endorse The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus and the Countrystyle Community Tourism Network (CCTN) Agreement signed in a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this past month at the Open Learning Centre at The UWI Mona Campus.

Dr Paul D. Brown elected as Vice-Chair for inaugural ASM Council on Microbial Sciences

Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus, Dr. Paul Brown, has been elected as Vice-Chair for the inaugural Council on Microbial Sciences (COMS) of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).

Michelle Doyle-Lowe

Michelle Doyle-Lowe was named Acting Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, effective June 2, 2017. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Economics from The University of the West Indies and an M.Phil. in International Finance from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. She is a longstanding member of the Barbados Economic Society.

UWIMAA Canada's Distinguished Service Award 2017 goes to Dr. Rosemary Moodie

2017 - Dr. Rosemary Moodie MBBS’82 - In recognition of exceptional service in child and maternal health

 

The UWIMAA Canada is pleased to honour Dr. Rosemary Moodie. who is a proud UWI alumna.  

She did post-graduate training in Paediatric Medicine and Perinatal Medicine at SickKids in Toronto. She completed her MBA from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto in 2001; and Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University in 2011.

H.E. Dr. June Soomer

St. Lucian, Ambassador Dr. June Soomer is the new Chairman of the Open Campus Council. A UWI alumna, she received her Ph.D. in History from the UWI in 1994. She was the first female to graduate with a doctorate in History from the UWI, Cave Hill. Her thesis entitled “An Assessment of the Factors Affecting the Structure and Functioning of The British West Indies Federal Civil Service, 1947-1962”, highlighted her passion for regional integration, one that she has maintained throughout her career. She currently serves as the Secretary General to the Association of Caribbean States.
