The UWI Alumni Relations - Data Privacy Statement
The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled securely and lawfully.
Purpose of Collection
Collected will be used to:
- maintain accurate alumni records;
- facilitate alumni engagement, networking, recognition, development initiatives, and event invitations; and
- enable communication of University updates, opportunities, and relevant programmes.
Lawful Basis
The lawful basis for processing this information is Legitimate Interests of the University in maintaining alumni engagement and institutional development activities. For communications of a promotional or fundraising nature, you may be asked to provide consent, which can be withdrawn at any time.
Data Sharing and Transfers
Your information will be accessible only to authorised University personnel and service providers who support legitimate alumni functions under strict confidentiality obligations. Where data is accessed or stored outside of Jamaica or other Caribbean territories, appropriate safeguards will be implemented to ensure adequate protection.
Retention
Your information will be retained for as long as necessary to support alumni engagement and institutional purposes, after which it will be securely deleted in accordance with the University’s records retention schedule.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data;
- Request correction of inaccurate information;
- Request deletion, where applicable;
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- Withdraw consent for optional communications at any time.
Security
All information provided will be stored securely with appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.
