A Gift of HOPE for a student in need

On Friday, November 5, 2021, Dr. Veronica Simon, Head, Student Virtual Concierge Services Unit (SVCSU) shared that Ms. Denise Chapman, a student of the Open Campus Trinidad site had lost all her possessions to a fire.

This touched the core of the heart of the Campus Officer for Alumni Relations for the Open Campus, Mrs. Sandra Griffith Carrington who immediately sought assistance from the Institutional Advancement Division, through its Head, Ms. Elizabeth Buchanan-Hind. This resulted in Ms. Chapman being awarded a UWI Toronto Awards Scholarship for the 2021/2022 academic year.

On Wednesday, January 26, Powell scored 107 during the 3rd match of West Indies vs England, England Tour of West Indies 2021/22, T20I. His performance which assisted the West Indies win, places him in history books as the third West Indian batsman (behind Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis) to score a hundred in a T20 International.

UWI Alumna Lee-Anne Roper publishes book on climate resilience titled “Building Rock-Solid Resilience to Natural Hazards: The Church Edition”

Le-Anne Roper is a sustainable development professional who hails from the beautiful island of Jamaica. Her current role focuses on climate change adaptation and loss and damage in her home country, but she also advocates for small island states as an international climate change negotiator. She holds a Master of Science degree in Natural Resource and Environmental Management (Hons.) with a specialization in climate change. She has contributed to several published works, including Christian learning resources relating to environmental stewardship and climate change.

Additional outdoor seating for study and reflection is now available to students at The University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus following the handing over of The Pondside Students’ Recreational Space on Monday.
