The UWI Museum & the UWI Mona’s Department of History & Archaeology birthed it’s UWI and the 1960s series in 2015 to explore the regional university’s connections with the iconic people and philosophies emerging from this decade of ferment, a half century ago.

SLIDESHOW: Launch of 50th Anniversary Exhibit Commemorating Selassie Visit

Hundreds turned out for the inaugural Selassie lecture, named for Emperor Haile Selassie 1 of Ethopia, and the official opening of a 50th Anniversary Exhibition commemorating his 1966 visit to Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and Haiti.The visiting exhibition, curated by Rootz Foundation through the 50th Anniversary Coordinating Committee, is at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Museum until May 19.

Let’s Harvest Memories in 2016

The To-Do list for 2016 is already stretching, but it’s clear that a major focus for the New Year must be to harvest memories, even as we engage with our various stakeholders. Now that the UWI is approaching its seventh decade, it is also in a period when there are fewer and fewer alumni and retirees from the pioneering years to help us fill gaps in the record.
