Dr. Rica Kelly - UWIAA UK Contact & Chair of the YAA-UK

Although far from the Caribbean, we know that UWI Pelicans in the United Kingdom have a strong connection to their Alma Mater, as well as their fellow Pelicans. I wish to highlight to you that the person helping to build this connection is Dr. Rica Kelly, who is the official UWI Alumni Association (UWIAA) UK Contact.

She is a second-generation alumna of The UWI Mona, and a member of a family which also boasts many UWI Pelicans. She holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Language Education (Literacy Studies) with honours. She participated in many extra-curricular activities such as UWILEADS, UWISPEAKS and the UWI Singers. She was inducted in the UWI STAT Ambassador Corps through the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and remains a UWI STAT Alumni Ambassador. Dr. Kelly also holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education at the University College of London (UCL) Institute of Education. Her multifaceted capabilities and her ability to operate in varied scenarios are always demonstrated with excellence.

An avid research and development consultant, leadership coach, global influencer, orator, and writer, she is the CEO of the Rica Kelly Group and Founder of The Global Women of Power Foundation. Her pursuits have connected her with The UCL Institute of Education, UNESCO, UNICEF, UN Women, The UWI, The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, The World Literacy Foundation and Release International, among others. She is internationally recognised and has received national and global awards. Notable figures have also recognised her altruistic and voluntary efforts, her advocacy for females to access educational and leadership opportunities, her involvement in educational planning at all levels of the education system and her Christian faith work.

Through Rica, you will remain connected to my office and be able to participate in alumni relations programming, such as the UWI “Soft and Life Skills Series” and E-Mentorship. You can also receive the latest news from across the five UWI campuses and also hear about fellow alumni and their accomplishments through the UWI Nexus.

Rica will also foster communication between the UWI alumni in the UK and the British Foundation for The University of the West Indies (BFUWI), which is a registered UK Charity. She will inform you about their events and activities so that you can participate.

How to be involved with the UWI:

With UWI alumni spread across the UK and concentrated in areas like London, Birmingham, and Manchester, I will work with Rica on virtual connections to build networking experiences and camaraderie.

Rica is also the Chair of the Young Alumni Advocates (YAA) - UK and will therefore also be leading engagement in the UK via virtual events on Zoom (the SLSS Webinars) and Clubhouse.

Rica looks forward to engaging with you in many ways to encourage networking, camaraderie and to foster Pelican Pride.
