Dr. Sasha Turner

UWI alumna, Dr. Sasha Turner of North Haven, Associate Professor of History, recently received the 2018 Maria Stewart Journal Article Prize from the African American Intellectual History Society for her essay: The Nameless and the Forgotten: Maternal Grief, Sacred Protection and the Archives of Slavery. She was also recognized as the 2018 Faculty Scholar in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University.

Making us proud - UWI STAT Alumni Ambassadors who met up in London last week continue to show that UWI STAT is indeed a Leadership Incubator, attracting youth who have a passion for volunteerism and service and for leaving the world a better place. State Minister of Education (Jamaica) the Hon. Floyd Green, one of the founding members of the UWI STAT Corps in 2006 and Naketa West, Senior Director, Youth and Adolescent Policy Division in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Jamaica, were in London for the Youth Ministerial task force.

UWI alumna Paula-Mae Weekes becomes the President of Trinidad and Tobago

The UWI family is filled with Pelican Pride as another member of its graduate community ascends to one of the highest offices in the region. Ms Paula-Mae Weekes has been appointed as the sixth President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Guy Harvey

Guy Harvey is a UWI alumnus who spent his boyhood off the coast of Jamaica fishing with his family in a dugout canoe, where he became enamoured with fishing and all things marine related. He graduated with honors in marine biology from Aberdeen University in Scotland and returned home to Jamaica to get a doctoral degree in fisheries biology from The University of the West Indies (Mona).

Leighton McKnight CD

UWI Alumnus and chartered accountant Leighton McKnight CD, has received the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica Distinguished Member Award for 2017 for sterling contribution to the accountancy profession and nation building. He is greatly admired for his philanthropy and community service by his fellow UWI Pelicans in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean; and in 2013, he was honoured by the Government of Jamaica with the Order of Distinction, Commander Class for Public Service, Philanthropy and Community Service.
