Welcome to The University of the West Indies Alumni Association Florida Chapter (UWIAAFL), an alumni association that is dedicated to the advancement of The University of the West Indies (UWI) as a center for excellence and the building of communities in Florida and the Caribbean.

All UWI graduates who reside in Florida, (from the Cave Hill, Mona, Open and St. Augustine campuses) - we invite you to join and become involved!

UPCOMING - 70th Anniversary Celebrations

The University of the West Indies (UWI) which officially started on October 3, 1948 with 33 medical students at the Mona Campus in Jamaica, celebrates its70th Anniversary in 2018. There are now four UWI campuses in this regional institution, with over fifty thousand students across 17 English speaking Caribbean countries. There will be a year-round celebration across all 4 campuses and will include lectures, conferences, symposia, community talks, gala dinners, luncheons, heritage and museum tours, sporting activities, exhibitions and a special cruise. The UWI Open Campus, the youngest campus, born in 2008 is also celebrating its 10thAnniversary in 2018.

The Florida Chapter of the UWI Alumni Association supports learning at the institution by the offering of annual scholarships. We are proud of the 70 years of service and leadership provided by our beloved alma mater! We call on alumni and friends from all UWI territories to unite with us to celebrate as “One UWI, One Alumni Family.”

January 2018 


Mr. Ronald White passed away on January 11, 2018, Ron lead the transition of the Florida chapter from the Guild of Graduates to the Alumni Association. He provided stellar leadership as the first president of UWIAA-FL for multiple terms and gave the chapter a solid foundation. Ron has been sick for several years. However, his dear wife Miriam, also a UWI graduate, has continued to work tirelessly to support the efforts of the chapter. Donations are accepted for the  Ronald & Miriam White Scholarship Fund. December 2, 2017 - The UWIAA Florida Alumni Walkathon successfully took place.  




REMEMBERING MARGARET BARRETT: Margaret Barrett, Past president and current secretary of the University of the West Indies Alumni Association- FL Chapter  died October 13, 2017.  She was also the former chief administrator of Jamaica National Building Society's office in Tamarac. Margaret was very active in the community and was a stalwart of UWIAA-FL She will be greatly missed. A scholarship fund to support talented but needy UWI students has been established in her name.  If you wish to make a contribution, you make a check out to UWIAA FL Chapter and write in the memo section; Margaret Barrett Scholarship Fund and mail to: UWI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (FLORIDA CHAPTER); P.O.
