UWIAA Cayman Chapter Annual Report 2011

The Cayman Chapter of the Alumni has met over the year and the Executive still remains as follows:

  • Leanora Wynter-Young: President

  • Maxine Anglin: Secretary

  • Brenda Dawkins: Treasurer

  • Carlene Bramwell: Public Relations Officer

The Alumni have created an annual calendar with the Annual general Meeting carded for a date in February each year as well as annual socials in August and a public lecture in November. The Public Lecture in this period was delivered by Dr. Livingston Smith a senior lecturer in Sociology and Politics at the University College of the Cayman Islands. This alumnus did us proud at the lecture held at the Public Library in George Town.

Alumni Activities which took place

  • Independence Social in late August

  • Active involvement at the UWISTAT activities held in November.

  • Involvement in the Student Orientation activities in August

Activities Planned for New Year

In the coming year, the Alumni hope to organize the following:

  • February/March – Garage Sale

  • March – AGM/Pelican Award/Social

  • August – Independence Celebration

  • November- Public Lecture (Public Library)

Finances: The financial situation of the Alumni still remains a matter of concern as we are still not able to draw the membership to institute membership fees and the bulk of the income has been so far derived from the social/fund raising activities held. Because of this we have still not had sufficient funds to award the scholarship that was proposed. $400 was reported to the IAD from the Alumni Social to assist OC students.

Conclusion: UWI Alumni in Cayman are still heartened by the fact that several members have shown great dedication but we would be a lot stronger if there were more involvement. The social events have proven very successful and we feel that these attract the majority of graduates, rather than formal meetings.
