UWI Vice-Chancellor salutes Sir Derek as one of the finest intellects of the 20th Century

Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. March 17, 2017.  Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles extends condolences on behalf of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) community to the family and loved ones of Sir Derek Walcott who passed away on Friday 17 March, 2017. Walcott, an alumnus of The UWI Mona Campus, graduated in 1953 and was awarded an honorary (DLitt) in 1973. His literary works are known and lauded internationally and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1992.

Dr. Luz Longsworth to be inducted as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The UWI Open Campus at ceremony in Belize

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. March 14, 2017:  On Thursday, March 16, 2017, Dr. Luz Longsworth will be inducted as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Open Campus of The University of the West Indies (The UWI).  The ceremony will be held in Belize, where Dr. Longsworth has lived and worked for many years. It takes place at the River Hall, Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza, Belize City, from 6:00 p.m. Belize time/8:00 p.m.

The UWI Open Campus hosts Annual Business Meeting of Council in Belize

The UWI Open Campus, Jamaica W.I., March 9, 2017 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus will welcome University Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Campus Council Chairman (Ag.), Dr. Lennox Honychurch, and other appointed members of the Campus Council for the presentation of its 2015/2016 Annual Report on Friday, March 17, 2017 in Belize. “Centering Woman” on International Women’s Day

I take the opportunity today to extend greetings to all the women of The UWI community—students, alumni and staff (past and present); a very happy International Women's Day to you all.

A day to celebrate women and highlight the challenges they face. In more recent years the United Nations (UN) has seen it fitting to call to awareness critical issues related to gender equality and women’s rights and implemented Millennium Development Goals for women and girls.

RBC and UWI Cave Hill hosts Race for the Kids

On April 17th, RBC & UWI Cave Hill Campus are holding a charitable walk and run to benefit the UWI Cave Hill Campus Scholarship Fund. The walk will start at 4:00 p.m. from the RBC University Drive Branch to The Usain Bolt Complex.
