The usual glitzy affair will see the prestigious 2016 American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI) Lifetime Achievement Award going to Dr. Harold Freeman, CEO, president and founder of the Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute in New York and Professor Emeritus of Surgery at Columbia University. He is being recognised for his contribution to poverty and cancer.
A Moot Court proceeding will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 3:00 pm in Law Lecture Theatre 2. The Moot will display students of the Faculty who will be making submissions on the Abortion Laws in Jamaica. The students will be coached by Professor Stephen Vasciannie.
Our signature event will be a Panel Discussion entitled: “Misconduct in Public Office” which will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 5:30 pm in Lecture Theatre 2. Our panellists include: Mr Dirk Harrison, Contractor General of Jamaica and Mr Terrence Williams, Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

Judith Forth Blake, Head of Marketing & Brand, Caribbean Banking, RBC Royal Bank awards the inaugural Judith Forth Blake Scholarship valued at US$3,000 to Stevell Wayne Simpson. He is a 2nd Year student in the UWI, Faculty of Social Sciences. He was selected based on his outstanding academic record, his demonstrated community involvement, as well as his leadership potential. He is currently unable to finance his tuition and is delighted to receive this support.
