VIDEO: TUNING THAT PAN!

The authentic Trini steelpan on display in the UWI Museum serves a lot of purposes: It is an artifact in its own right, donated to the UWI by a former alumna who became Prime Minister of the twin-island republic that gave birth to pan; it conjures T&T and the UWI St Augustine Campus there; it is a unique musical instrument. It also provides the museum the occasional opportunity to fill the space with the signature sound.

MEDICAL MEDALLIST

Pauline Barrow, widow of consultant gastroenterologist Orrin Barrow, visited the UWI Museum and we took the opportunity to get some background on this iconic musician-doctor whose medical medals are now in the UWI Museum collection.

UWIs CONTRIBUTION TO REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The history and heritage of the University of the West Indies (UWI) are important in part because of the undeniable role that the university has played in the development of the nations of the Caribbean and the region as a whole.
Some elements of that role were affirmed at the 2016 Global Giving Week event held August 7 at the Mona Campus and in the UWI Regional HQ.
