UWIAA Florida Chapter member encourages PPE Donation

UWI Alumnus and UWIAA Florida Chapter Member, Mr. Donat Grant, who is also the President Missions for Health (M4H), was thanked by the School of Dentistry at The UWI Mona for the Missions for Health (M4H) donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as the students are truly appreciative of the organization’s generosity.

The items included:

Order of Ontario bestowed on UWI Alumna Rosemary Moodie

The Honourable, Senator Rosemary Moodie – Toronto, was appointed to the Order of Ontario by The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Chancellor of the Order of Ontario. The province’s highest honour recognizes individuals whose exceptional achievements have a lasting legacy in the province, in Canada and beyond.

Medical Alumni – assisting through the 1948 Society

In 2020, the 1948 Society continues to assist medical students and in 2020 awarded scholarships valued at a total of US$14,000.00

The 1948 Society was launched at the UWI Medical Alumni Association (UWIMAA) Reunion in Nassau in November 2003. The newly installed UWI Chancellor Sir George Alleyne endorsed the 1948 Society and made the first donation of US$1,000.00.

UWIAA CHTM 2021 New Year’s Lime

On Saturday January 9, 202, the UWIAA CHTM group kicked off the year with a virtual Lime via Zoom. We got started at 8:30 PM AST Time and continued well into the night finally wrapping up going on 11:00 PM within the same time zone.

Congratulations Class of 2020

Our newest UWI graduates were celebrated in ceremonies across the region from Jan 10 – 15th. The UWI Graduation season also included for the first time the Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda. Six women have made history as the first graduates  from The UWI’s newest campus which was established in 2019. They joined thousands across the regional university graduating this month in ceremonies rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Kevon Dindial

Dr. Dindial, MBBS, DM Paediatrics, is currently completing his final year of pediatric hematology/oncology training at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and is also one of the SickKids-Caribbean Initiative lead physicians for Trinidad and Tobago. He obtained his medical degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI) in 2010 followed by his specialist pediatric degree in 2017 (UWI). After completion of his training at SickKids, Dr. Dindial will return to Trinidad and Tobago to continue the care of children with blood disorders and cancer.

UWI Mona warns the Public of Degrees and other Certificates for Sale

The University of the West Indies, Mona notes the sale of certificates purporting to be undergraduate and post graduate degrees conferred by The University of the West Indies.
The University is currently investigating the matter as we view this as highly concerning and condemn the actions of those involved in this activity.
In the meantime, we wish to advise employers, educational institutions and all others concerned to be vigilant and on the alert for these non-genuine documents.
