Dr. Luz Longsworth to be inducted as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The UWI Open Campus at ceremony in Belize

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. March 14, 2017:  On Thursday, March 16, 2017, Dr. Luz Longsworth will be inducted as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Open Campus of The University of the West Indies (The UWI).  The ceremony will be held in Belize, where Dr. Longsworth has lived and worked for many years. It takes place at the River Hall, Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza, Belize City, from 6:00 p.m. Belize time/8:00 p.m.

FIRST PELICAN

Pete the Pelican has become an unofficial symbol of the UWI and the label ‘Pelicans’ has started to attach to a lot of teams at the university. But the first promotional use of the university’s crest seems to date back to February 1951, when the students of the then University College of the West Indies (UCWI) attached the name to their new student publication.

Saint Lucia to host The UWI’s Budget Meetings

Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. February 20, 2017.  The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce that the Government of Saint Lucia will host the annual meetings of the Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) to the Grants Committees of The UWI. These meetings will be held at the Bay Gardens Hotel, Rodney Bay Village, on February 20-21, 2017.

Another Caribbean Stalwart passes: Former Guyana Ambassador to UN, Noel Sinclair dies

Guyana’s former Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Noel Sinclair, has passed away. He was one of Guyana’s finest Diplomats. His career was spent almost entirely within the Diplomatic Service, the exception being a brief stint at Central High School.
